Holne gets Baking!

Holne Village Tearoom

Holne Village Tearoom

Holne is a pretty Dartmoor village nestled above the river Dart, for a while it had everything that a small community could need, a pub, a shop, a village hall and a shop and  café.   And then, this time last year, the  shop & café was put on the market and it looked like Holne was going to lose not only its shop but also the shop that serves the neighbouring communities of Scorriton, Coombe and the canoeists (during canoe season) of Spitchwick too.

However, all  was not lost and following a call from the Parish Council, the community rallied together and a group of very able volunteers emerged to take on the shop and café too.   Facilitated by the Dartmoor National Park Authority and others they are now trading as a community enterprise having secured a lease on the building and opened the doors of the new  Holne Community Shop and Tearoom to their first customers  at the end of May.  The tearoom is now open every weekend from 1.30pm to 5pm, so if you are paddling in the Dart, walking the Two Moors Way or just on  your way back from enjoying a lazy day at Venford then pop in and savour a home baked cream tea with a good dollop of local clotted cream!
