Volunteers – pond dippers and diggers – the next installment

Phase 2 of Pond Restoration Project Completed

Skaigh Woods - the old water take off point

Pond Restoration Phase 2

Following a very successful Community project day held in July (to help celebrate Dartmoor NP’s 60th Anniversary and reported on here), which cleared the old pond in Skaigh Woods betwixt Belstone and Sticklepath, the old water take off point has been discovered and cleared of debris and silt. Its still in good condition and includes a copper filter at the end of the pipe in order to keep any debris from entering the system from the nearby spring.

Unfortunately most of the pipe has either badly corroded or is missing (probably used for another project when the land was in private hands).
Phase 3 will involve the purchase of 100m of pipe to join the take off to the pond below which will hopefully see the return of the pond to its former glory!
